Best. Weekend. Ever.

This past weekend I headed back to my old stomping grounds, Kansas City to see my best college friends and celebrate a couple of baby bumps.  Instead of sharing the entire weekends activities I thought I would just dedicate this blog entry to all of my girlfriends in general as this weekend was a reminder as to how blessed I am to have some of the most amazing women in the world as my friends.  From elementary school to high school, from my dance days to college, Kansas City and Minneapolis, lucky isn’t even the word to use to describe the beautiful friendships that I have in my life.

My girlfriends have always provided something to my life beyond words.  They provide something that even my family or husband can’t provide.  I don’t know exactly know what that “something” is but my girlfriends are in a category of their own.  Did you know that it’s possible to laugh for 72 straight hours with good girlfriends?  It is. I did it this weekend.

My girlfriends get statements like, “I’m in a bad mood and I just want to be.”  They understand what “ugly laugh face means.”   That the term “BB99” is as sacred to some of my girlfriends as the word marriage is to others.  My good girlfriends know how “hairbows” shaped much of my youth and how my “lurking” talents are quite possibly the most underrated of all of my talents.  My girlfriends can actually laugh on que when you put a dot com on the end of anything you say and statements like “Loves you, Totes me gotes, L.I.F.E, nugs and duck butter” mean more than their actual meaning.  That’s because with girlfriends like I have you have a lifetime of amazing memories and wonderful experiences.

It’s been really interesting to watch how all of our lives have changed over the past few years.  From big time careers to traveling, marriage and babies, one thing is certain, all of our lives have become a lot more complex.  Where it would be easier especially with my girlfriends that live out-of-town to lose touch or not find the time to talk, I have found that my friendships have become stronger than ever.  The conversations and time together have such a deeper meaning and I truly cherish every second of my girlfriend time.  As we inevitably move into even more complex stages of my life, I am just so thankful to have so many wonderful girlfriends to go through it with.  A special thank you to my girls this weekend that reminded me that with good girlfriends and a lot of laughter, life is truly good.

As one of the more famous ladies who always understood the value and importance of her girlfriends once said, “The most important thing in life is your family.  There are days you love them, and others you don’t.  But, in the end, they’re the people you always come home to.  Sometimes it’s the family you’re born into and sometimes it’s the one you make for yourself.”  Thanks Carrie Bradshaw, so true.

So to the family that I made for myself, my girlfriends,  I cherish and love each of you beyond words.

Great thoughts to live by. Loved having you here. You are a priceless friend for coming in from Minnie to go above and beyond throwing a shower for baby–and helping this waddling prego through the weekend!

    Love you so much!
