Big Girl Bedroom – Phase Two

Phase two was definitely easier than phase one of my “big girl bedroom” makeover.  This portion only took me a couple of months, instead of the almost year-long task of painting walls and finding dressers for the room.  If you recall from my last big girl bedroom post, I was looking for night stands to match my favorite new turquoise lamp.  I knew from looking at what seemed like every store in this city over the past few months that it was going to be nearly impossible to match my night stands to the lamp.  I decided to buy plain wood night stands and went to Facebook to see if anyone out there had the skills to paint and distress them to my specifications.  Gotta love Facebook for requests like this because within minutes an old client of mine had put me in touch with his wife who paints and distresses furniture for fun!  Long story short, she never did work for anyone else so it was really inexpensive and she did an amazing job!  She even found the cutest knobs to put on the night stands.  It was exactly what the room needed for a little more pop of color and it just looks so cute with my turquoise lamp that I die for.

I found cute lamps at Odds and Ends Furniture and then waited for a duvet cover at Restoration Hardware that I feel in love with to go on sale.  Alas, I had it all and finally a complete bedroom.  It’s not fancy but it’s my big girl room and I love, love, love it!  A friend of mine gave me the ultimate compliment when she walked into the room and said “its beautiful, it feels so calm and soothing!”  Exactly what I was going for.  The second biggest compliment came from Teddy who woke up from a night sleep in the big girl bedroom and said “I can’t get up, I am too comfortable and I’m stuck in a cloud of pillows!”

So the final phase of my bedroom is a new headboard and curtains, but I need to hold off on that for a while.  Those are pretty big purchases and I am so in love with the room right now, that I am happy to wait.  Until then, I’m off to enjoy another wonderful night sleep in my big girl bedroom.  Night, Night!
